April 5 at 7-9pm CT
In conversations about the incarceration of survivors of violence, survivors are often discussed solely in terms of their victimization or their cases. What frequently goes unmentioned is that incarcerated survivors regularly organize for justice, freedom, and liberation — for themselves, for each other, and for all who are caged.
This event will feature four activist survivors who engaged in powerful organizing while incarcerated, and have brought that important work into the movement on the outside, too. Moderator Colette Payne will be in conversation with Monica Cosby, Paris Knox, and Alisha Walker. We’ll discuss the challenges and triumphs of organizing while incarcerated, the gendered and racialized repression of dissent, what people on the outside can do to support incarcerated people’s organizing efforts, and much more.
Join Love & Protect — a grassroots collective working to support and free trans and non-trans women, nonbinary, gender nonconforming, and trans men of color who have been incarcerated for defending themselves against interpersonal violence — and other groups for an evening of conversation.
The Zoom link will be emailed prior to the event, along with tips for letter writing.
The event is organized by Love & Protect, the Prison Neighborhood Arts Collective, NEIU Nontraditional Degree Program Office, the DePaul University’s Women’s Center, the DePaul Center for Black Diaspora, the DePaul Egan Office For Urban Education & Community Partnerships, and Peace, Justice and Conflict Studies Program.
