It’s a historic time for commutations in California: By the end of his term, 283 people were commuted by former Governor Jerry Brown. This is significant compared to 1-2 people commuted per term by past Governors since the 1960s. With California Coalition for Women Prisoners, the statewide California S&P team is building on this opportunity to release as many people as possible during Gov. Newsom’s administration through gubernatorial clemency. We want to see commutations in the thousands!
Join Survived & Punished CA and TGI Justice Project (TGIJP) in conversation with a panel of criminalized survivors of gender-based violence, moderated by S&P organizer Aminah Elster, to learn from their experiences and analyses about criminalization and their fight for freedom.

Our evening will also include letter writing to incarcerated survivors in California prisons. We will provide all letter writing materials including stationery, envelopes and stamps!
There will be some light refreshments. Eastside Arts Alliance is a wheelchair accessible space with no steps required. The venue is not scent-free, but please support our efforts to support the participation of community members with chemical sensitivities by coming to the event as low- or no-scent as you are able. To request other access needs, please email email@example.com by October 1, if possible.
