Tracy McCarter is a nurse and a survivor of domestic violence who was forced to defend her life in March after her husband attacked her. For months, prosecutors not only insisted on punishing her for her act of self-defense, they imprisoned her on Rikers Island without bail during a pandemic while she waited for the trial. As a result, Tracy missed the birth of her first grandchild.
