Dec 13, Oakland: Winter Letter Writing Night to Incarcerated Survivors

December 13, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

It’s winter, holiday season is upon us and 2018 is winding down. It can be an especially tough time of the year for many people, especially survivors of violence and especially those who are incarcerated. Incarceration is an incredibly isolating and violence experience, especially for for survivors. Help us send them some love and join us to write an incarcerated survivor (or several!), including those who are currently fighting for commutation. Let’s keep the freedom pipeline flowing, learn more about gender violence and criminalization, and take action to #FreeThemAll!

We’ll provide envelopes, letter writing materials, information on different survivors you can write to, and mail out your letters for you. You can join for the whole event or just slide through to write a letter real quick. Feel free to bring more letter writing supplies if you want! There will be light refreshments and snacks. Whether you’ve been following our work for a while or are new to what abolition is, we welcome you to join us. Many thanks to Qulture Collective for hosting.

Public Transit and Accessibility Information: The space is 2 blocks from 19th St Bart. There are no steps to enter. Please arrive low or scent free.

Take Action: Sign the petitions of survivors fighting for their freedom via commutation of their sentence from Governor Brown. We know petitions can seem numerous and ineffective, but this is a tangible way to help survivors fight for their freedom
